FINALLY, a small ferry boat arrived at the river-shore of the Blue Star.

And there, in front of the Spring-of-Oblivion,

he and she stood, holding each other’s hand tightly.

A tiny white gourd was floating on the water,

and very close to them,

the Sun and the Moon standing head-to-head, waiting to see her off.

The birds clapped hands together all at once.

The flowers began to sing the most beautiful requiem on a low tone,

and all the bells in the world tolled softly in the sound of river-water too.

“Goodbye, sweetheart. I’ll meet you someday on the shore of the other Star.”

He whispered into her ears as she drew the water

from the Spring-of-Oblivion with the white gourd.

“I love you.”

Hurriedly he added one more word just before she stepped into the ferryboat,

but, by then,

she who had already swallowed the last sip of the water from the white gourd,

did not remember him anymore.

SLOWLY, the ferryboat began to move.

He wept sorrowfully, clinging to her sleeves.

But now she was just a wayfarer whose soul has a long way to go,

standing quietly with her hands neatly folded on her chest,

facing the shore at the other Star across the river with unfocused eyes.

Before long, the sound of the river-water died down;

and the flowers sang no more.

The Sun and the Moon,

too, quietly returned to up where they belong.
