메트로 밴쿠버에 있는 두 식료품점에는 COVID-19가 확진된 직원들이 있다. 소비(Sobeys)의 회사 웹사이트에 게시된 확인된 코로나바이러스사례 목록에는 직원들이 양성 반응을 보인 캐나다전국의 위치가 나와 있다. 로워매인랜드지역에서 영향을 받은 한 장소는 Richmond에 있는 10153 No.3 Road에 있는 FreshCo이다. 그 곳에서 3월 28일에 감염자가 기록되었다.

또 다른 하나는 지난 3월 31일 사건이 기록된 밴쿠버 웨스트 킹 에드워드 아베의 세이프웨이 990번지로 기록되어 있다.

한편 회사의 게시판에는 우리는 정부의 코로나 지침에 따라 손을 비누로 잘씻고 세정제를 사용하고 사회적 거리두기를 철저히 하는 등 노력을 기울이지 않겠다고 말하며 직원들의 개인정보는 철저히 보호하겠다고 밝혔다. 코로나 사태로 많은 사람들이 쇼핑과 사재기등을 한 밴쿠버에선 그로서리를 다루는 수퍼마켓에서 일하는 직원들에게 특별수당을 지급하는 등의 노력을 기울이고 있지만 정작 마스크를 사용하라는 안내는 없다. 마스크를 착용하면 최소한 직원들이 감염되어 손님들에게 전파되는 병의 매개체가 되는것을 어느 정도 막을 수 있었음에도 정부당국이나 방역관계자들 모두 마스크는 필요없다는 말만 되뇌이다가 미국의 상황악화와 WHO의 입장 변화로 마지못해 일반인도 마스크를 쓰는게 도움이 된다고 밝히고 있다. 한편 회사는 대청소를 실시하고 소독을 실시하여 더욱 주의를 기울이겠다고 밝혔다.

캐나다 교정국 연합에 따르면, 두 명의 수감자가 COVID-19 양성반응을 보인 후, 미션에 있는 연방 교도소가 폐쇄되었다고 한다. 캐나다 교정국은 성명을 통해 "현재 9건의 음성 결과와 2건의 미결 결과, 2건의 확인된 사례가 있다"고 밝히고 있다.성명서는 개인보호장비의 공급 부족으로 인해 교정담당관의 건강과 복지가 점점 더 걱정되고 있다고 말한다. 

"현재 의료보호장비는 감염된 수감자들과 상호작용을 해야 하는 직원들에게 제공되고 있지만 공급량이 부족하다. 의료장비의 요구조건은 직원들 사이에서 불안요인이 되고 있다.

노조는 캐나다 교정국에 새로운 코로나바이러스에 대해 직원이나 수감자가 양성반응을 보이는 모든 기관과 교정기관에서 많은 조치를 시행할 것을 요구하고 있다.

요구 목록에는 바이러스에 감염된 수감자의 격리, 이미 감염된 수용자에 노출되어 있는 수용자의 현장 직원 제한, 의무 신고자의 체온을 재도록 요구하는 내용이 포함되어 있다.이 조치는 연방 교도소에서 처음으로 확인된 사건 이후 퀘벡의 포트카티에 연구소에서 시행되었다.

노조는 또한 국민안전처 장관이 각 감옥이 적절한 코로나 테스트를 받을 수 있도록 보장해 주기를 바라고 있다.월요일자로 발표된 노동조합의 성명서는 확산 속도를 늦추기 위해 일부 수감자들을 석방하라는 지지자들의 요구를 거부했다. 

2020년 4월 3일,알버츠포드, 브리티시컬럼비아 교정 서비스 캐나다에서 밝힌 바에 의하면 2020년 4월 2일, 퍼시픽 수감소의 수감자인 조지 레슬리 아서 세드윅이 사망했으면 이유는 명백한 자연사로 사망했다고 밝혔다.그가 사망할 당시, 89세의 Sedgwick씨는 1969년 3월 11일부터 성추행과 심한 외설행위로 무기한 형을 선고받고 있었다.

수감자의 사망과 관련된 모든 사례에서와 같이, Correctional Service Canada(CSC)는 상황을 검토할 것이다. CSC 정책은 경찰과 검시관에게 알릴 것을 요구한다. 

COVID-19 Statement of the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers-CSN (Montreal, March 31, 2020) — In light of the information made public by Correctional Service Canada, UCCO-SACC-CSN would like to make the following statement: Since the confirmation of a first case of Covid-19 at Port-Cartier Institution on March 25, the union has put pressure CSC so that adequate measures are put in place to protect all of our members and to limit the spread of the virus. As of March 29, here are some of the existing measures that are in place in Port-Cartier Institution: • A complete lockdown is in place (inmates must stay in their cell 24 hours a day, to prevent contamination). Only medical emergencies are taken care of; • All correctional officers that are currently working are 100% assured that they are not afflicted with the virus, and that they haven’t been in contact with infected ones; • Medical staff are taking every employee’s temperature at the beginning and at the end of each day; • Every correctional officers are provided with sufficient masks and training was given to all as to how to install them and taking them off safely; • Every correctional officer must take a shower and change clothes at the penitentiary; • No transfers of inmates are allowed. Besides those measures, UCCO-SACC-CSN is asking that the results of the tests being made on correctional officers are treated as a priority as correctional officers are front-line workers and their health and safety is essential. Inmates’ behavior The Union of Canadian Correctional Officers-CSN is constantly pushing to make sure other important rules are being put in place. Those rules include a better control of inmates’ behavior, minimizing groups encounter and that all social distancing rules are being followed inside our institutions, by correctional officers as well as by inmates to avoid any contamination. Inmates release As for the recent call from Senator Kim Pate and inmate advocacy groups for the immediate release of inmates under the care, custody, and control of the Correctional Service of Canada signals a complete disregard for public safety. The release of a few inmates would not solve the potential spread of COVID-19 in our facilities; it would only increase the risk for Canadians. We need not look further than the recent tragedy in Quebec with the murder of a citizen by an inmate on day parole to understand that even inmates on conditional release may pose a threat to society. The focus must be on changing routines in our institutions to respect social distancing and selfisolation directives to every extent possible. Canada is in crisis, and its citizens are already
