   세월;

낮이라고 다 낮이 아닌

밤이라고 다 밤이 아닌

그런 세월이 있지요

인생의 중천에서

자갈길 엇박자 삶은 턱까지 숨차도

한낮엔 희끄무레한 잠을 자고

밤이면 발끝으로 삶을 굴리며

외발자전거

헐레벌떡 앞만 보고 달릴 때

하늘 향한 머리는 오히려 꼿꼿하고

비췻빛 청정한 꿈이 하도 푸르러

한오백년 머물 듯 멀고 푸르러

   세월;

별이 떴다고 다 밤이 아니던

해가 떴다고 다 낮이 아니던

그래요ㅡ

그런 세월 하나 내게도 있었지요.

    -70년대 초, 나의 이민 초창기 시절을 회상하며

Offbeat 

    Time;

there is such a Time

that daytime does not mean day time, nor

night-time means night time either.

In a settler’s heydays,

when life was rough on the offbeat,

having a whitish sleep during the days,

tiptoeing in the marketplace of Living at nights.

Yet pedalling a unicycle mightily hard;        

eyes kept watching straight forward,

head held high towards the sun, for

jade green dreams seemed so clear and promising

and time would stay with me forever young.

     Time;

there once was a Time

that neither starry sky meant night-time,

nor sunny sky daytime either. --

Yes, I have been there! 

  -Reminiscing my new settler’s years in the early 1970s.
